Engineering practice in Uganda is regulated by the Engineers Registration Board (ERB). The ERB website lists categories including registered engineers, temporary registered engineers, registered technologists and registered technicians.
The governing law is the Engineers Registration Act, Chapter 271. Under section 20, a person may be registered after applying in the prescribed manner and paying the prescribed fee if they meet the statutory qualifications, including recognised academic training, practical experience and membership requirements.

Temporary registration applies where a person is not ordinarily resident in Uganda, intends to work in Uganda as a professionally qualified engineer for specific work, and was practising as an engineer before entering Uganda in a capacity that satisfies the Board. Registration may be for a period not exceeding one year or for the duration of the specific work.
The Act also states that a professional engineer coming to work in Uganda should become a member of the institution within two months of arrival and register within four months of arrival. A firm or organisation recruiting such an engineer must ensure registration within four months.
